Things to do In Hawaii for Eco-Tourists

The most important thing to remember about Hawaii is that it looks so small on the map and turns out to be so big in person.  Remember even though it is the 47th smallest state, it is still the size of a state and are so many things to do in Hawaii that you’ll be exhausted by the time you get back from you vacation.  Take into account that you have a very long flight and that you are going to be outdoors most of the time and also will be island hopping to enjoy different activities.  This is why you need too be really selective about your itinerary and take the time to enjoy your self, not become worn out.

Horseback Riding

There are both private and public and private riding stables on most of the islands in Hawaii.  Riding on the shoreline is unforgettable – and the sand makes for a softer landing, just in case you fall off of your horse.  Horses were thought by the ancient Greeks to have been created by Poseidon, God of the Sea.  You may notice a lot of similarities between the waves and your horse as you ride.  Find out before your trip whether you need to bring any special riding hats or shoes, or if they will be provided for you.  Booking in advance will guarantee you a spot.

Whale Watching

Whale watching is becoming one of the most popular things to do in Hawaii because the waters are crystal clear.  With the fear that these creatures may become extinct, people want to see them now, while the populations are still around.  The boats rock a lot and water gets sprayed around so it is a good idea to bring a rain coat and something for motion sickness.

Nature Preserves

There are many nature preserves on several of the islands, each with different activities.  Hawaii has wildlife, birdlife and plant life that doesn’t exist anywhere else.  There are different things to do in Hawaiian nature preserves, including hiking, camping, bird watching, biking and going on guided tours.  You can go online to discover what events might be happening in a particular preserve that interests you most.

The Beach

One of the original things to do in Hawaii is still one of the most popular:  lying out on the beach.  There are plenty of public beaches to choose from in the chain of islands.  Don’t ever swim by yourself and don’t go into the water if there isn’t a lifeguard on duty.  Hawaii’s waters can have very unpredictable riptides.  But it’s always nice to suntan and you can do that during any time of the year.
