Staying at Kona Hawaii Hotels
Northern Kona Hawaii hotels are near scenery that is dominated by many old lava beds. Because it is on the west coast of the Big Island Kona gets plenty of sun. It’s the sun shine that definitely make this landscape one of the best in all Hawaii. Beginning at the Port of Kawaihae, you will find a lot of comfortable beaches, and there are many more pristine beaches throughout the Kohala Coast, where there are large resort hotels and where the majestic Mauna Kea volcano dominates the landscape.
The Keahole Airport and the vibrant town of Kailu-Kona are located in North Kona, and the area is very accessible because there are direct flights always available from both the Mainland and Overseas. There are many Kona Hawaii hotels here, mainly located within walking distance to all the local attractions. Then there are also the south Kona Hawaii hotels. These are mostly large condo complexes with swimming pools and tennis courts. There is a point here where the road begins to elevate and you will pass a string of tiny villages and small coffee farms. You will also notice that the air is becoming cooler as you are climbing the slopes of the Hualalai volcano. There are a few great spots for snorkeling, such as the Kealakekua Bay and Honaunau, and you should also keep an eye out for the green sea turtles and Hawaiian Spinner dolphins that are often swimming in this area.
Many Kona Hawaii hotels have Ocean views and are very nice, but if you stay in what you suspect may be an older hotel, make sure to find out when it was built and when it was last renovated. You may find that the newer private condos may be larger and more to your liking than the King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.
